The latest suggestion is that he doesn't need any training or experience in CAM therapies to profess to the world about it!

The cynics are annoyed about us harping on this point. They actually think that if you are a Scientist, you can tell the world the facts about ANYTHING. The arrogance, I mean it leaves you gaping doesn't it?

Mind you, I don't see why it should require any special training to keep repeating: "There's no evidence that demonstrates specific efficacy, but there is some evidence that it might be dangerous" over and over and over and over and over...

I'm actually rather bored by this debate now but I will get around to editing my earlier comments which caused Ernst to threaten me with libel, and put them back on the Truth Will Out site. I don't think it was libellous really but it was a bit personal, so next time I'll make sure it is very cold and impersonal. Then I'll forget all about him, because he's just a cynical mischief-maker. Most ordinary people have never heard of him anyway, and even his own university don't like the guy.

Well, quite a while ago in Abel Pharmboy's blog, I brought up the same issue - the question of exactly WHAT are Enrst's qualifications in alternative medicine. Ernst himself responded and stated that he had had no advanced training or degrees in Homeopathy, and as far as I could tell, not much to speak of in any other alternative medicine field. He also stated that he had taken the introductory Homeopathy course required in German med schools and had seen it used during his internship or residency in a hospital. That's not a whole heck of a lot of background for the world's only "Professor of Complementary and Alternative medcine".

Keep following the debate at http://www.skepticat.org/2010/03/the-importance-of-being-ernst/

I made a reply to Zeno's post dated 3rd April 2010, but my reply has so far not appeared, and it is now April 7th. Already, Edzard Ernst has run away from the debate after I challenged him to tell us what qualifications he holds in CAM studies and where he obtained them. His response was a sheer cop-out, along the lines of 'My uni was happy with my qualifications when I got the job so I don't have to tell you'!

Have I now been blocked from Skepticat's blog? Maybe not, no other posts have appeared either so far, so it could be held up in moderation. But if so, I will simply transfer the debate to the Truth Will Out blog.

It's been open season on CAM for a long time now, and Ernst & Co have had a field day. Not anymore. I'm going to level the playing field.

By the way, his 'homeopathy background' was obviously a smokescreen, a deliberate attempt to portray himself as objective or knowledgeable about CAM therapies, when in reality he was neither: check out my latest blog post "Edzard Ernst is a Fake 3".

I expect the Daily Mail will be pretty irritated when they realise what he's really been up to all this time!

I honestly believe that Edzard ernst is a wolf in sheep's clothing, and the 'Maurice Laing' tale may well be a front to conceal his real backers. I believe he is at the centre of a misinformation machine to discredit CAM therapies and prevent them being accepted in place of pharmaceuticals.

I am a professional hypnotherapist of ten years standing in the U.K., and I first became suspicious when I noticed that he seemed very gung-ho about discrediting CAM therapies... a little over-zealous for a supposedly impartial assessor... and then when he stated that hypnotherapy was not really any use for smoking cessation I knew he was completely incorrect about that because I built my hypnotherapy practice on it!

The aim seemed to be to pick off CAM therapies one by one, damning them with faint praise or outright condemnation, and a little movement of like-minded individuals coalesced around this project, some of whom I think are genuine believers in Ernst. Homeopathy was the main initial target and already they have succeeded in convincing the politicians in the U.K. to withdraw all funding for homeopathy in the National Health Service.

So I wrote the blog post 'Edzard Ernst is a Fake' http://www.truthwillout.co.uk/2008/04/edzard-ernst-is-a-fake/ on my website www.truthwillout.co.uk and then quite recently 'Edzard Ernst is a Fake 2'. I want everyone in the CAM field to realise that we are all under a sustained attack which is masquerading as a genuine scientific enquiry, and I'm sure if everyone does some digging we will be able to expose the truth about Ernst and who is really funding all of this. It stinks to high heaven and we should have no hesitation in turning the spotlight on this whole seventeen-year CAM-bashing publishing exercise which has played the media and genuine CAM sceptics for fools, misleading the public and damaging the professional reputations of thousands of CAM practitioners worldwide.

Ernst has never had anything to do with complementary medicine. He is so close to the pharmaceutical industry that it is a wonder they haven't named a drug after him.
