The international inaugural function of The World Institute of Sensation Homoeopathy (WISH) was held on Jan 5, 2012 at ‘the other song: International Academy of Advanced Homoeopathy’, at Andheri, Mumbai. The 10-day meeting was attended by 40 leading teachers in homeopathy from 15 countries including the US, UK, Germany, France, Israel, Egypt, Canada, Switzerland, Spain, Austria, Netherlands, Brazil, Russia, Japan, and India.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director, Bajaj Auto emphasised that homeopathy was not only the most effective form of treatment but how its principles were universally applicable. He stated that he has applied the philosophy and principles of Homeopathy to bring about major and effective changes in his company’s management.

Chief Guest of the function, Suraj Barjatya, eminent film maker, shared his personal experiences of healing with homeopathy. He also stressed the need for more good quality homeopathic practitioners through proper training.

Dr Rajan Sankaran MD (Hom) head of The Other Song (International Academy for Advanced Homeopathy) spoke about the Sensation Method. Building on traditional homeopathy which primarily relies on symptoms, the Sensation Method helps the patient focus on his deeper experiences (sensation). This sensation is related to a corresponding sensation found in the plant, mineral or animal kingdoms. The physician understands the patient using this method, making remedy selection easier as it is based on a definite system of analysis. This latest advancement in Homeopathy is getting worldwide recognition, and the success rate of homeopaths who use and apply this technique is exceptionally high, asserted Sankaran.

The Chairman of WISH (World Institute Sensational Homeopathy), Dr Juergen Hansel, MD, from Munich spoke about the advancements in homeopathy in the last 20 years. He said that the discovery of the Sensation Method has brought a significant shift in the results and effectiveness of homeopathic remedies prescribed using this method. He feels that the Sensation Method needs to be brought to the reach of all homeopaths through proper teaching and training. He mentioned that the purpose of the current meeting was to deliberate on how to standardise and improve teaching methods in homeopathy.

Dr Juergen announced that on January 7-8, 2012, WISH, The Other Song, and Homeopathic Research and Charities, are organising an All India Conference on the treatment of Children through Homeopathy titled “WISH for Children” in Mumbai in which over 300 experienced homoeopaths will participate.

NEW DELHI: Western countries like Britain may persist with their scathing attacks on homeopathy, calling it unscientific and for which dozens of systematic reviews have failed to produce convincing evidence of effectiveness. Despite the carping critics, homeopathy, which is around 250 years old, continues to be tremendously popular.

A study has said Indian homeopathy treatment market is likely to grow 30% annually and pegged at Rs 4,600 crore in the next few years.

Globally, the homeopathy market is estimated at Rs 26,300 crore, with France being the largest contributor. Last year, the size of domestic homeopathy market was around Rs 2,758 crore, according to a study by Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM). Union health ministry officials said over 100 million Indians depend solely on homeopathy. This figure is likely to exceed 16 crore in the next three years.

India has over five lakh registered homeopaths and around 20,000 more are being added every year. There are 185 homoeopathic colleges, which offer 33 PG courses. Besides, there are 11,000 homoeopathic hospital beds. D S Rawat, secretary general of ASSOCHAM, pointed out to a practical problem. Homeopathic medicines are hardly available in 15-25 outlets in a city as compared to the reach of allopathic drugs.

But abroad, the situation is different. Though there are very few practitioners of homeopathy, the medicines are well distributed. This explains a big market across France, the UK and the US. In the UK, the homeopathy market is pegged at 46 million pounds by 2012.

World Health Organiation says homeopathy is practiced in 66 countries and treatment is individualized.

The drug Vidatox-30CH, innovative and high value for the treatment of cancer is now made in China. The Cuban company Labiofam group, which exists in the Asian country since 1994, has led to propose the drug use in that country.

As its name implies, is a homeopathic product made from the venom of the scorpion Rhopalurus junceus, endemic to Cuba, diluted 30 hundredths, and with demonstrated antitumor effect, analgesic and anti-inflammatory.

Scientists of the research team of the properties of this poison taught in September and October, the Conference on New Technologies anticancer Cuba-China in three major cities of the Asian nation: Xian (capital of Shaanxi), Shanghai and Beijing. These meetings, involving doctors, representatives of the Ministry of Health of China and the State Food and Drug Administration and experts from universities and scientific institutions, patients and employers, allowed a better understanding of the potential of Vidatox-30CH. After obtaining registration in Cuba last March, triggered Labiofam promotional events in all regions of the world, told Prensa Latina Adiley Gómez, member of the delegation in charge of that mission in China.

In this nation concerning the Director of Research and Development Isbel Gonzalez noted that the results were very satisfactory and fruitful by the exchange between Cuban specialists and experts from host institutions. He also underscored the interest shown by everyone not only through questions associated with the science, but also the application and commercialization of Vidatox-30CH.

The product, to the amazement of many, it was known by some on the Internet and tourists who have brought to family and friends, as told Prensa Latina Jingbin Qu, president of the company Yangling Hengrun Technology Development Co. Ltd., a representative Vidatox trade in China. At the conclusion of three days, in which 300 people participated, Daniel Morhaime, CEO of that Cuban group in China, expressed that these meetings will open a new path in the development of cooperation for the benefit of both peoples. All these presentations precede, as known, the start of the process for registration of such product in this country with a view to marketing.

Goodness of Vidatox-30CH. Prolong life and improve the quality of this in cancer patients is now a Labiofam goal, as explained by its specialists. In addition to nutritional supplements for human use, the agency expanded its range to the development of a drug for cancer therapy. Today has the first of its kind, the Vidatox-30CH (sublingual drops), but also advances in the natural log of the solution from the venom.

This is an investigation of more than 15 years in which they have identified five of the active peptides with marked antitumor action, from which one works for chemical synthesis and cloning. The latter, while maintaining the benefits offered by the venom, and also as a complementary alternative in the treatment of that disease.

Actions for registration Vidatox-30CH, homeopathic first presentation have been developed in over 15 countries, among which are Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico and Uruguay, Spain, Italy, France, Great Britain , Vietnam and China. Today is marketed in Albania and Argentina.

As mentioned the effectiveness of active pharmaceutical ingredient (poison), it was found that has a selective toxicity on tumor cells, including those chemoresistant, and the absence of that property from the healthy ones. So the researcher Alexis Diaz said during his speech at the event in Beijing, who also explained to the audience the scientific evidence demonstrating its potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic. The same behavior selectively toxic against solid tumors was observed on metastasis. In addition, the venom caused a delay in the onset of these, all of which confirmed that their combined use with chemotherapy potentiates the action of the latter, according to the data presented by the expert.

The challenge of Labiofam. Perhaps one of the challenges regarding Vidatox Labiofam-30CH is to overcome the ignorance of the art of homeopathy in China, where traditional medicine is very strong. The issue was widely discussed by Dr. Fabio Linares, who said that it is a method whose function is to stimulate the natural healing mechanisms in sick people. He clarified that not acting on conventional action-like reaction, but by the body with a certain condition.

Homeopathic pharmacy now has over three thousand different products belonging to the vegetable kingdom, mineral and animal, he said, stipulating that are used worldwide to treat acute and chronic conditions of man. He cited the increase in its application from the decade of 2000 to reach its sales in 2010 of 2.2 billion euros. The leading countries in this market are USA, France, India and Germany, although other equally occupy a representative, including some from America.

Described by Hippocrates two thousand five hundred years, the principle on which homeopathy is based was developed as we know it today by the German doctor Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), who discovered how to prepare properly and use these Remedies.

Early diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and therapeutic vaccines are the main weapons that science has to face cancer. With these conventional treatments and the simultaneous use of homeopathic products that are looking to improve the quality of life of patients, prolong survival and prevent recurrence of malignant tumors, experts agreed Vidatox-30CH promoters.

Are then used to learn more about this method Labiofam 2012 International Congress convened to Havana from 24 to 28 September and which will present new results and other proposals for the treatment of cancer patients.

In 1900, an estimated 20 percent of doctors in the United States were homeopaths, but because of societal changes, its popularity declined while European interest interest in homeopath remained steady. Recent decades have seen a strong resurgence of homeopathic interest in the United States in particular.

According to the 2007 National Health Interview Survey, which included a comprehensive survey of complementary and alternative medicine use by Americans, an estimated 3.9 million U.S. adults and approximately 900,000 children used homeopathy in the previous year. The Nutrition Business Journal reported that in the U.S. consumer sales of homeopathic treatments reached $870 million in 2009, an increase of 10 percent from the previous year.

Hawaii has no shortage of homeopathic doctors and a large array can be found on all of the main islands.

As our nation’s leaders continue the healthcare debate, we’ve come to a place where the decisions we make for our health and well-being are influenced not only by the financial burdens we face, but what we’ve become accustomed to as a society. Like the housing and credit crisis, it’s up to us as individuals to educate ourselves on the process to a better future and keep an open mind to the options we have. When it comes to our personal well-being, there is an affordable and safer option, according to the National Center for Homeopathy, for much of the every-day ailments we face.

Homeopathic treatments, called remedies, are used to treat a wide variety of common ailments from colic, to colds, to the flu using a 200-year old rule called the Law of Similars (LS), which in a nutshell, states that “like cures like.” Basically, LS says that a medicine can cure a sick person if it can cause similar sickness in a healthy person.

First discovered in 400 B.C., it wasn’t until the 1800s when Samuel Hahnemann, a German doctor and chemist, fully stated the ideas of homeopathy after testing small doses of the medicine on himself and exploring LS fully. Derived from the Greek words homeos meaning “similar,” and pathos meaning “disease or suffering,” “homeopathic” means “to treat with a remedy that produces an effect similar to the disease or suffering.”

An example given by NCH says that if you peel an onion, your eyes burn, itch, and water. You might also have a runny nose and begin to sneeze. If you had similar symptoms during a cold or allergy attack, such as a runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing, a homeopathic micro-dose of the remedy Allium cepa (red onion) would help your body heal itself.

Homeopathic practitioners maintain that these non-toxic remedies are prepared from substances found in nature and derived from plants and minerals. The original substance is diluted in liquid repeatedly and then vigorously shaken with each dilution. Unusual as it sounds, these very small amounts of remedies can act very strongly when used properly and are non-toxic, according to NCH. One of the main differences that homeopathic practitioners point to is that while conventional medicine looks at the absence of disease as health, homeopathy looks at a person’s overall emotional, physical, and mental levels.

It’s important to note that homeopathy is not herbal medicine. These two systems of medicine are very different as herbal medicine uses tinctures of botanical substances only.

“I take homeopathic remedies just about any time I get sick,” says Yari Rogers, a self proclaimed fan of natural medicines. “They have them for everything.” She adds: “I don’t want side affects from drugs, artificial dyes, and chemicals in my medicines, so I go for homeopathy.” ….

Indian homeopathy treatment market is likely to grow 30% annually and reach a size of Rs. 4,600 crore as the number of takers is growing fast within and outside the country, apex chamber ASSOCHAM said today.

Globally, the homeopathy market is estimated at Rs. 26,300 crore with France being the largest contributor, according to the study by The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM). Last year, the domestic homeopathy market size was about Rs. 2,758 crore.

Releasing the study, Mr. D S Rawat, Secretary General ASSOCHAM said that homeopathy which a few years ago was not considered a long lasting solution has lagged behind allopathy in many respects as it kills the roots of aliments without any side effects. In one to one and personalized treatment with greater private interactions both homeopathy physician and its patients derive the utmost satisfaction with the least cost for consultation. This is another reasons as to why the Indian traditional treatment called the homeopathy has been spreading in every nook and corner of the country and world as well.

It has been stated that the growth of homeopathy is not only confined to India but world over, its size has gone beyond Rs.263 billion and interestingly the growth rate is almost on par and that is around 25%. France, Interestingly contributes the largest size in world Homeopathy market, points out the ASSOCHAM study.

It cites reasons for growing homeopathy market in India, saying that homeopathy, besides providing for effective means treating chronic aliments is also available and easily accessible online to over 1.5 crore patients across the country. The online homeopathy connectivity worldwide is more than in 95 countries and interestingly majority of them are economies of scale in which allopathy until recently has been more prevalent and in vogue.

In 2009-10, patients diagnosing their aliments with homeopathy throughout the country were estimated at 10-12 crore, whose number is likely to exceed about 16 crore in next 2-3 years in view of its popularity and acceptability among the general masses, says the ASSOCHAM study.

Mr. Rawat made a mention of the ASSOCHAM recent assessment on “Homeopathy Demand on the Rise” in which it was found out that in metros like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and other satellite towns like Chandigarh, Hyderabad and Luknow. Over 75% of patients surveyed spoke very high for homeopathy, arguing that though it takes longer to root out aliments but the treatment is safe and physiologically satisfactory for, there are no side effects.

Majority of them held that homeopathy users switch on to allopathy only on exceptional cases and in acute emergencies, otherwise homeopaths are best to be consultated for removal of majority of physical and other aliments. Many of them also said that homeopathy is increasingly becoming an alternate to allopathic medicines.

There are over 5 lakh registered homeopaths in the country currently, with approximately 20,000 more being added every year. The size of the homeopathic drugs market is also expanding very fast even though these medicines cost only a fraction of allopathic or even ayurvedic medicines.

Another reason for homeopathy’s popularity has been the growing disillusionment with conventional allopathic medicine, which has, for many years, been the first line of treatment for most patients. Many patients also feel that homeopathy is a more personalised treatment, with greater one-on-one interaction between the patient and the physician.

Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is a broad term that encompasses diverse healthcare modalities that emanate from a variety of healing cultures. One of the basic principles of CAM is the promotion of cultural pluralism and openness to diverse cultural aspects of health and illness. Some CAM modalities have been integrated into Israeli healthcare organizations over the past two decades.

AIM: The objective of this research was to examine whether the integrated CAM modalities match the preferences of Israel’s diverse ethnic groups.

METHODOLOGY: The research was conducted in northern Israel, an area marked by ethnic and religious diversity. We gathered information about the types of CAM modalities included in the clinics of all four public health funds health maintenance organizations (HMOs)–by means of a telephone survey. This data was assessed in relation to previous data regarding patients’ preferences on integrating CAM in community care.

RESULTS: The 4 HMOs offer 24 CAM modalities within 58 clinics in northern Israel. The most common CAM modalities are: reflexology, Chinese Medicine and acupuncture, massage, shiatsu, twina, homeopathy and naturopathy. These modalities partly match the Jewish and Arab populations’ preferences concerning Chinese medicine and touch/movement modalities. The Arab population, however, which reports greater use of folk-traditional medicine, such as consultation with healers and use of herbal medicine, do not have these treatment options available within healthcare organizations.

CONCLUSIONS: Western-oriented CAM modalities are integrated within the IsraeLi HMOs, while local folk-traditional medicine is not. The integrated modalities accord with the Jewish populations’ preferences more than with those of the Arab population.

DISCUSSION: Some of the factors that influence integration are discussed. Certain homegrown traditional healthcare modalities, such as use of local medicinal herbs, should be considered for addition to current CAM practices. Developing integrative medicine within a common Jewish-Arabic space could have medical as well as social-cultural advantages.

A proposal by Ontario’s medical regulator to take a more liberal approach to homeopathy, acupuncture and other alternative health care has drawn sharp criticism from some national doctors’ groups, who warn the draft rules mark a shift away from scientifically backed treatment.

Others are applauding the more inclusive tone adopted by the College of Physicians and Surgeons, whose suggested policy highlights a growing, if controversial, legitimacy around non-conventional health care in Canada.

The Ontario college, which licenses and disciplines physicians in the province, said it decided to revisit its policy partly because of the apparent increase in popularity of alternative care. The new document says doctors should respect patients’ wishes to try non-conventional care, avoid expressing personal judgments of alternative medicine and require “sound evidence” but not necessarily clinical trials to back up any alternative treatments they use.

The B.C. college, in contrast, says in its policy on the issue that alternative therapies are generally unproven and that recommending them without good evidence is unethical.

In one of numerous submissions to the Ontario regulator, the Canadian Medical Association criticizes the policy for allowing doctors to sell potentially questionable alternative-health treatments, and not stressing the lack of evidence behind such treatments.

The group representing Canada’s allergy doctors blasts the college for failing to note that people may be foregoing crucial, scientifically backed treatment and risking serious harm when they use dubious alternative care.

“This is a very serious issue,” said Dr. Stuart Carr, president of the Canadian Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

“In a day when we have incredibly effective, and almost universally safe, treatment approaches for people with asthma, the idea we would either delay or avoid those options for completely unproven or sometimes disproven approaches is frankly unacceptable.”

Allergy doctors regularly see patients who have undergone tests that falsely diagnose food allergies, leading to disruptive and needless dietary changes, and ineffective treatments for asthma that allow permanent lung damage to occur, said Dr. Carr.

Underlying conflict over the Ontario policy is a general move toward official acceptance of what is often called “complementary and alternative medicine,” despite continuing criticism in some quarters that it is founded more on belief than empirical proof.

Under Health Canada’s seven-year-old program for regulating natural-health products, for instance, many remedies have been approved based on their traditional use over the centuries, and other evidence that is much less rigorous than required for prescription drugs.

In Ontario, the law was changed recently to officially recognize homeopaths, naturopaths and Chinese medical practitioners as health professions with their own, self-regulating colleges. B.C. has done the same for naturopathy and Chinese medicine and in 2009 gave naturopaths drug-prescribing rights.

A little-noticed poll commissioned by Health Canada last year suggested 73% of Canadians have used natural-health products.

Proponents of alternative medicine argue that its potential risks are far less than those of prescription drugs, surgery and other conventional procedures, and their efficacy difficult to prove with randomized clinical trials that can cost millions of dollars to conduct.

The Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors praises the Ontario college’s draft policy, saying it counters the tendency now for many medical doctors to express personal biases against naturopathic care and discourage patients from seeking it.

“Oftentimes when physicians have a [negative] comment about naturopathic medicine, it’s usually due to misinformation,” said Leigh Arseneau, a spokesman for the association. “The more they understand what we do, the more likely they are to work with us.”

Even some medical bodies, including the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, which regulates medical specialists, told the college that parts of the policy are, if anything, too restrictive toward alternative medicine.

The Ontario Society of Physicians for Complementary Medicine goes further, blasting the draft rules as exhibiting a “deep and trenchant hostility” toward non-conventional medicine, arguing that much of mainstream health care itself does not have top-quality scientific evidence proving that it works.

College directors will discuss the feedback and the shape of the final policy in November, said Jill Hefley, a spokeswoman for the regulator.

Dr Shah said that after trial in a number of cases, he is able to claim that the medicines are 100 per cent effective. A healthy person will have to take medicines for a month for prevention of dengue fever while a patient needs to take medicines for 15 days, he said. Giving details, he said that by taking medicine, a confirmed patient of the infection gets rid of the fever after seven days and his platelets count gets absolutely normal. It is important that platelets count in blood of a healthy person ranges from 150,000 to 400,000 that with the onset of dengue fever lowers and may go even below 30,000.

Dr Shah said that he has given medicines to all patients free of cost so far. To a query, he said that medicine for a patient costs Rs60 to Rs70 and in case it is prepared on a massive scale, its cost might be reduced.

It is important that a massive outbreak of dengue fever has already hit a number of cities in Punjab province while in Lahore over 4,000 confirmed patients of the infection has been reported so far. To date, the outbreak has claimed as many as 15 lives in Punjab.

Head of Pathology Department at Rawalpindi Medical College Professor Dr Abbas Hayat, who is a renowned microbiologist, when contacted by The News said that the homoeopath claiming of having treatment of the infection may be given due consideration. Dr Abbas, who is heading pathology department at Benazir Bhutto Hospital, added that the homoeopath should come to the isolation wards of the BBH and treat confirmed cases of the dengue fever there. In the public interest, we will make arrangements for him to prove his claim. His medicine can be tested on selected patients for a real test and trial purpose in whom the medicine s efficacy can be monitored, he said while responding to a query. He added that through test and trial, scientific data would also be collected on treatment protocol if really developed by the homeopath.

District Health Officer Dr Khalid Randhawa, when asked by The News , said that the concerned government authorities may give consideration to the claim of the homoeopath. By associating a couple of top class consultants with the homoeopath, his medicines can be tested on selected patients, he said. A number of senior citizens are of the view that the concerned government authorities including Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif should give due consideration to the claim being made by Dr Asghar Ali Shah and his medicines should be put on test and trial on confirmed patients. They, however, say that the provincial health department or the CM should form a special committee comprising health experts to monitor results in patients who are given the homeopath’s medicines.

PPI from Karachi adds: Dr. S.J.H Shah, President National Council for Homeopathy, Ministry of Health, urged the Punjab and Sindh governments to invite all medical associations and organisations including National Council for Homeopathy, Pakistan Medical Association, Pakistan Islamic Medical Association, Family Physicians Association Pakistan to its meetings and sessions so that they all can draw out low-cost solution to the epidemic. Emphasising on Homeopathy he said it is an old, traditional and reasonably priced treatment method of different dieses it could also cure dengue fever effectively. The government should invite homeopathic doctors also in its meetings to find homeopathy-based solutions to different diseases.

And from the Pakistan Observer 18.9.11:

Islamabad—A joint effort of Homeopathy and Allopathy physicians for finding out complete cure of Dengue may produce positive results and help get rid of the fatal disease. It is not a war between Allopathy and Homeopathy but time for medical experts from both fields to join hands and save lives of people, said Homeopathic doctor Zakia Hashmi.

Talking to mediamen she said, “According to a Hadith, every disease has a cure except for death. Dengue is no exception.” When Dengue Mosquito bites a human, it attacks on the immune system and the white blood cells (WBCs) and platelets start to decrease immediately, Dr Zakia said adding, platelet count in a healthy person ranges from 150,000 to 400,000. It spreads when a normal mosquito bites a patient of dengue and then the virus is transferred from him to the mosquito making it a dengue mosquito, the doctor said. High fever, severe pain in eyes, severe body pain, nausea, itching and red spots on the body and in severe conditions, bleeding from skin, nose, teeth and large intestine may occur are common symptoms of the disease, she said.

Homeopathy doctor said the fever usually lasts from three to five days, and rarely more than seven days.“Dengue mosquito (Aedesaegpyti) originates from clean water. It is a day-time biter and lives in close proximity to humans in urban areas”, the doctor said. Tests can diagnose this fever only after the patient has been affected by it for more than four days, Dr. Zakia said adding, Dengue fever can take a more severe form dengue hemorrhagic fever. Its symptoms include loss of appetite, vomiting, intense abdominal pain, shock and bleeding from the nose or under the skin and can be fatal if not treated on time, the Doctor warned.

Belarus is one stop in a Labiofam sales campaign throughout Europe. The company said the “commercial-scientific delegation” currently in Belarus also visited Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan to negotiate sales of Vidatox. Another Labiofam delegation is traveling to Bulgaria, Albania, Turkey, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia and Hungary. Beginning Sept. 3, two other delegations will visit Great Britain, France, Denmark, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Spain and Portugal. In addition to PharmLand, a Belarus-Dutch joint venture that is part of pharmaceutical state company Belbiopharm, a private clinic in Albania agreed to offer the product.

The company didn’t say why it didn’t include Italy in its marketing efforts. According to Cuban press reports, demand for Vidatox from foreign cancer patients, particularly Italians, has been “overwhelming” the company. The Cuban embassy in Rome put a notice on its Website last year, saying that “for now, unfortunately, it will not be possible to respond positively to the thousands of requests pouring in to Labiofam, since its production is still very limited.”

Vidatox, made from the venom of the blue scorpion, has anti-tumorial, analgesic and anti-inflammatory qualities that help improve the quality of life of cancer patients, according to Labiofam. The company presents the product as a “natural, complementary alternative in the treatment of oncological patients.”

Last year, PharmLand signed a contract with Cuban state company SIMAB on joint production of anti-cancer drug nimotuzumab in Belarus.
